John Michael Johnson was born in Grand Forks, ND, on April 25, 1947, to Harold B. and Eloise Johnson. He passed away in his Fargo home of natural causes on February 8, 2023.
J. Michael grew up in Oslo, MN, and graduated from Oslo Public School, Northland Community College in Thief River Falls, MN, and Moorhead State University.
He began his career in social work in Massachusetts and later worked for Isanti County in Cambridge, MN. He then moved to Fargo and worked for Clay County Social services in Moorhead, MN, for many years until retirement.
Preceding J. Michael in death were his parents; brother, Ronald; sister-in-law, Phyliss Johnson; and dear friend, Helen.
He is survived by brothers, Kent, Virginia, MN, Raymond (Laurel) and Robert (Sandy) of East Grand Forks, Daniel (Brenda) of Grand Forks, Neal (Mae) of Duluth, MN; and sisters, Janet (Larry) Smith, Fredericksburg, VA, Mary (Michael) Johnson of Warren, MN, Elsa (Brad) Cook, Stephen, MN, Elizabeth (Aaron) Brekke; and sister-in-law, Sue Johnson, East Grand Forks. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, his dear friends Teresa, Nancy, Jamey, Gail, Kim and Lonnie, and his faithful dog Bentley.
A family memorial service will be held later in the spring.
