Gay Lillian Kommer (Paulson), 83, of Fargo, North Dakota, passed away on March 20, 2024, in Fargo.

Gay was a truly remarkable person, with a feisty yet loving personality that touched everyone she met. Her spirit was infectious, and her love for life was evident in everything she did. She loved her family with a truly inspiring intensity. Her love was not just a feeling but a verb, and she demonstrated it through her actions. Gay's children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she loved spending time with them, attending their sporting events, and celebrating their achievements.
A creative and talented individual, Gay found joy in knitting and crocheting. She was always working on a new project and loved to share her creations with her family. Her latest project was Christmas stocking caps for all her family to wear this Christmas, and she had recently dropped off hats for the homeless just a month before she passed away. Gay's crochet needles were her constant companions, and her living room floor was often covered with her latest projects.

Gay is survived by her sisters: Betty Hiltwein, Jane Spitzer, Gloria Thompson, and Judy Just; her children: Russell Kommer, Cindy Henderson (Grant), Lisa Okke (Jason), Bradley Kommer (Shawnette), Toby Kommer; her grandchildren: Sierra (Kyle), Justin, Randy, Brandy, Nicholas, Skylar, Piper, Ethan, Ashley, Amanda, Morgan, Mya, and Channing; and her great-grandchildren: Leighton, Levi, Damien, Dakota, Mckenna, Alanah, Mia, Lucianna, Gabe, Dayton, Noah, and Austin. She was preceded in death by her mother, Gladys Paulson, and her twin brother, Ray Paulson, great-grandsons Lucius Loftin and Dante Romannose-Jones.

Gay's passion for caring for others started when she was a young woman. She started her career as an LPN at a local hospital, but it was working with the elderly that truly lit up her heart. She spent countless hours working in nursing homes, where her love and compassion for her residents were evident in everything she did. Her gentle touch and kind words brought comfort to those who were in their final years, and she was a source of strength and inspiration to all who knew her.

Gay's legacy of love, creativity, and compassion will live on through her family and all those who were lucky enough to know her.

A service to honor and celebrate Gay's life will be held at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, 215 7th Street South, Fargo, North Dakota on Saturday, March 23, at 2:00 P.M.
