Garilyn Lee McColm, 67, died March 14 in Palliative Care at Sanford Hospital.
Born July 17, 1948, Garilyn grew up in Berlin, ND. She earned her RN degree at St. Luke’s School of Nursing. She worked at St. Luke’s/MeritCare/Sanford from 1969-2011. Garilyn currently worked at Northern Plains Eye Surgery.
Garilyn was a member of First United Methodist Church where she served as a parish nurse. Her love for music was evident as she sang in Sweet Adelines and the church choir.
Garilyn lived life to the fullest. Lee Lake was her second home. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She touched everyone she knew with her generosity. She will be remembered for her humility, service to God, and her caring spirit. She will be missed.
Garilyn is survived by her children, Alyssa (Thomas) Larson, Kimberly (John) VanCamp, and Jason (Jennifer) McColm; eight grandchildren: Breanna and Ciara Larson; Jonah, Abbigail, and Calvin VanCamp; Tristan Madison, Jack Petru, and Emma Claire McColm; parents, LeRoy and Ruby Nypen; siblings, Jerry (Sandra) Nypen, Lonsdale, MN, Jane (Loren) Owens, Crosby, ND, James (Teresita) Nypen, Killeen, TX, and Corey (Melinda) Nypen, Phoenix, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ben and Minnie Klever, and Ole and Gunhild Nypen and her son-in-law, Mark Strackbein.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to First United Methodist Church or Roger Maris Cancer Center.
