Charmeon Larson

January 10, 1929 — July 4, 2010

Charmeon Cecelia Larson went to heaven on Sunday, July 4, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. Charmeon was an involved mother and grandmother and had a very strong faith in Jesus and his promise of eternal life. Her greatest wish was to live like Christ and to share her faith with her family and those around her. Charmeon was born January 10, 1929 in Wahpeton, ND to Alice Gertrude Claypool Adams and Clifton Paul Adams. For much of her childhood she enjoyed living with her family next to Star Lake in Minnesota. Although it was the Great Depression, Charmeon's parents took advantage of living by the lake supporting their family of ten by growing huge gardens, canning, fishing and making homemade bread. She loved her mother's recipe for sweet cream raisin pie. The home was filled with music, her dad playing the violin and banjo and her siblings accompanying him on the old pump organ, piano and singing. She loved poetry and memorized many poems as a child as well as reading many books. She was very involved in her school as the captain of the basketball team and as the editor of the senior annual. She loved music, especially strings and singing. She loved the sound of the waves lapping against the shores of Star Lake. Charmeon worked in a hospital in Fergus Falls, MN as a nurse then worked in Moorhead at St. Ansgar Hospital. At 20 years of age she met her husband Arnold Walter Larson. They enjoyed dancing and going out to dinner. He showered her with gifts and flowers and impressed her with his politeness and intelligence. They were married on a sunny spring day on April 29, 1950 at Elim Lutheran Church of Fargo. Life on the farm was lots of work! She learned to cook and bake quickly, having hired men as well as her family to care for. Arnold always farmed many acres and later in life they raised chickens and had a thriving egg business. They moved to Arnold's parent's farm north of Fargo where they raised their family of four children. Charmeon was a nurturing and loving mother and was cherished by all of her family. Charmeon's six grandchildren were fortunate to live next to her and Arnold on the family farm. Their home was a hangout for the grandkids where she would keep their bellies full with homemade hot chocolate and cinnamon toast. Along with Arnold, Charmeon would attend all of her grandchildren's school concerts, birthday parties and events and hosted many wonderful Christmases and Thanksgivings. Charmeon was a kind, gentle and faithful spirit. Her family felt her love each time they were near through her loving smile and her warm embrace. We will miss her. She will be in our hearts forever. Charmeon was preceded in death by her parents Alice Gertrude Claypool Adams and Clifton P. Adams, her siblings Arlie Adams, Mildred (Raymond) Seeba, Clinton (Doris) Adams, Viola (Maynard) Rostad, Marcella (Milton) Peterson, Laddie Joe (Llewelen - living) Adams, and Delbert Adams. She is survived by her husband Arnold Walter Larson, her children James (and Pattie) Larson, Rebecca Oberlander, John (and Connie) Larson and Joseph Larson, her grandchildren Andrew (and Jessica) Larson, Aaron (and Jessica) Oberlander, Melanie (and Jason) Brown, Chad Larson, Laura Larson and Seth Oberlander, and three great grandchildren Derek and Dylan Brown and Lillian Oberlander.
