Carol Mary Grimm

April 7, 1953 — July 16, 2016

Carol Grimm passed away peacefully at her home on July 16th with the support of Hospice.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 6th at Faith United Methodist Church in Fargo with a reception to follow.

Carol was born to Anna and Forrest Helms on April 7th, 1953 in Little Falls, Minnesota.
Carol graduated from Shanley High School and received her Bachelor’s in secondary education from NDSU and her Master’s in management from the University of Mary.

Most recently she was the director of Health and Wellness at MSUM (2008-2016) overseeing counseling and medical services for students. She was the Director of Health Promotion and Prevention at Fargo Cass Public Health (1997-2008), she worked for the University of Minnesota School of Public Health to implement a follow up heart study (1996-1997), and was the Coordinator of Public Education and Training at The Rape and Abuse Crisis Center (1980-1996). She was a volunteer for the YWCA, Planned Parenthood of ND, Fargo Youth Commission, YMCA, Historic Fargo Theater, American Heart Association, NDSU Compass, Fargo Public Schools, Plains Art Museum, and the Sundance Film Festival, and was also a member of PEO Chapter BB. Her greatest satisfaction came from working with young people to teach and inspire them.

Carol demonstrated a lifetime of being a thoughtful and dedicated advocate to empower others. She wants her legacy to be “that I did not give women and children a voice, but rather I helped them find their own voice”. Her strength, commitment, and courage was an inspiration to everyone who met her. She lived her life with a passion for everything she did whether it was fighting for social justice issues, travel or finding the best wine. She included her friends and family in all of her adventures.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Roger, her mother, Anna Helms, sisters Mary (Ken Olson) Helms, Lisa (Matt) Jorgenson, Susie Helms, and her brothers Tom (Karen) Helms and Tim (Tammy) Helms and 10 nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers please send donation to The Rape and Abuse Crisis Center or Hospice of the Red River Valley.
